Former Husker Dane Todd Receives Post Graduate Scholarship

Former Nebraska Football fullback Dane Todd was one of 24 recipients to receive the Dr. Prentice Gautt post graduate scholarship.  The scholarship awarded 24 student athletes from the Big 12 with a $ 7500 scholarship for excellence in academics.

The scholarship is for student athletes enrolling in graduate school and required the applicants to have completed 2 years of athletics and maintain a cumulative grade point average of a 3.5.  Todd exceeded these requirements playing 4 years of football with the Huskers and maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average.  Todd was an academic All-American in 2006 and was a 4-year Nebraska football letter winner.

ESPN picks up Big 12 conference games

Fox Sports Net sub-licensed five Big 12 conference football games for the 2007 season to ESPN.  The five games are Saturday night games and will most likely be played at 8 o'clock.  This will be a change from the 6 and 7 o'clock games normally played on Saturday nights.

According to the Omaha World Herald only the Florida State vs. Colorado game on September 15 has been decided on but other games are expected to be announced soon.  One Nebraska game expected to be moved to 8 and shown on ESPN is the October 6th game against Missouri played in Missouri.  It is the same day as the Texas vs. Oklahoma game but that game is traditionally held in the afternoon.

Nebraska Football Scheduling Is Hard Task

Current Nebraska Athletic Director Steve Pederson has recently come under pressure for scheduling easy teams for Nebraska Football's upcoming seasons.  Pederson recently scheduled games for the 2008-2009 seasons with three low profile teams from the Sun-Belt Conference.

Pederson recently expressed at HuskerExtra.com that it is becoming a large task to schedule good teams for upcoming seasons.  Not only do teams not want to commit early but they are not willing to commit to play talented and good teams.  Most say that their schedule is hard enough with just conference play.

Pederson did land a Virginia Tech home for home series where the Huskers will play one game in Virginia and one game here in the 2008-2009 seasons.  Get tickets to this and other Nebraska Football games at Ticket Express.

Omaha Introduces Sports Hall of Fame's First Class

The inaugural class of the Omaha Sports Hall of Fame was inducted last night.  Seven of the ten new inductees were former and current football players including 3 Heisman trophy winners.

Members included many faces from Nebraska Football's past.  Gale Sayers, Roger Sayers, Marlin Briscoe, Nile Kinnick, Dave Rimington, Johnny Rodgers, and Eric Crouch were the football stars of the group.  All attended the ceremony except for Crouch who is currently training with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League.

Former Nebraska Football Head Coach Tom Osborne was in attendance and was quoted by omaha.com as saying, "This is a phenomenal group of athletes, it really says something that there's this much talent in one place."

Former Husker Brandon Jackson Gets Comforitable With Packers

Former star Nebraska Football player Brandon Jackson is hoping to earn a the #1 running back spot on his new team the Green Bay Packers.  Jackson was drafted to the Packers in the second round and 63st overall.  Jackson is contending for the running back position with some old and fresh talent including fellow rookie DeShawn Wynn.

Contending for a position is nothing new to Jackson.  Last season with Nebraska Jackson rose from the 3rd position on the depth chart to the #1 position.

As most of us Husker fans recall Coach Callahan gave the starting position to Jackson halfway through the season after Jackson took advantages of several running opportunities in the first half of the season.  Jackson kept his position as the go to guy for the rest of the season rushing for 715 yards for the Huskers.

Nebraska Football Program Recognized for High Graduation Rate

The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) honored the Nebraska Football program for completing 7 consecutive years of graduating 70 percent of the football team's players.  As reported by huskers.com Nebraska is one of only 34 Division 1-A schools to receive this title this year.

The Nebraska Football team hopes to reach the likings of Notre Dame and Northwestern which had over a 95 percent graduation rate for the year.  The average graduation rate for the over 100 schools that participated in the survey was 60%.  Click here for Nebraska Football Tickets.
