I hate to see him go, but I have finally admitted to myself that coach Callahan is not the right fit for Nebraska football. After witnessing Nebraska get clobbered by the mediocre Texas A&M team this Saturday I knew that change was in the air. I didn't immediately call for Callahan's resignation like most of the other Nebraska football critics. I believed that his recruiting skills were great as well as his consistency as a coach. Unfortunately he consistently did bad this season.
Callahan's problem is that he won't fix what is wrong with the program. When the Huskers are in the game losing by a lot he will not change his game plan. Likewise, when he is losing a lot of games in a row (this season) he doesn't make any changes.
Take for example the Texas A&M option game they ran on Nebraska on Saturday. The option was working and Texas A&M QB McGee rushed for a career high of 35 times. Normally this would warrant a change in the defense in how to disable McGee in the future. But do you think Callahan realized this? I doubt it, he told the Des Moines Register that “they played a little more read-option than they have in the past, but I thought they had a good blend of everything."
Good thinking Callahan, its observations like those that leads to every Husker fan and their mom to call for you to leave.
