Part of the job of being head coach of a football team at a major university is getting out and talking with the public.
New Nebraska coach Bo Pelini has been doing just that recently, making stops all across the state and talking with fans about the upcoming season.
Recently, Pelini spoke at a banquet in Omaha and talked at length about his first coming to Nebraska as defensive coordinator for then-head coach Frank Solich. He said he felt bad that Solich was fired the way that he was under then-athletic director Steve Pederson, but said he is ready to take over as head coach now, something that he may not have been ready to do even after serving as interim coach for the Alamo Bowl after Solich was fired.
Pelini said the coaching staff is working hard on developing a new attitude on the team, and they are more concerned with the process of putting things in place than worrying about which opponent is next on the schedule.
He said this year's team will play with a lot more passion, adding that the team is not playing "at" the University of Nebraska, but that they're playing "for" the school and the people across the state who are fans of the program.
