The first game is about two months away, but now is not the time to sit back and relax.
Especially after a 5-7 season.
And while most of us are enjoying summer vacation, relaxing by the pool or any number of outdoor leisure activities, members of the Nebraska football team are working to get better as they prepare for the 2008 season.
There is a sense of urgency within the Husker camp this year, and also a sense of excitement. With new coach Bo Pelini at the helm, there is a change of attitude in Lincoln and that is translating into people working a little harder in getting ready for the season opener Aug. 30 against Western Michigan.
In a recent Omaha World-Herald story, Zach Potter discussed the summer workouts that got started in early June. Players are running twice a week and working out each day, doing so without the coaching staff on hand. Strength and conditioning coach James Dobson and his staff are the only ones around to help the players out as they work to get themselves prepared for a tough season of football.
Potter said it's up to the seniors to keep everybody on the same page. Without the distractions of class, getting ready for a specific opponent or other things, the players can work on making themselves more physically fit to prepare themselves for four weeks of summer camp and the 2008 season.
