Marlon Lucky and Joe Ganz could join two Husker legends later this year.
It's a stretch to think it, but Lucky and Ganz both were named to the watch lists for a pair of pretsigious awards. Lucky was tabbed for the Maxwell Award, given to the nation's top player; and Ganz' name was included on the watch list for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, given to the nation's top senior quarterback.
Two former Huskers have won these awards previously. In 1983, Mike Rozier won the Maxwell Award after rushing for a school-record 2,148 yards. He also won the Heisman Trophy and Walter Camp Award that year. In 1995, Tommie Frazier led the Huskers to the national title and was the winner of the Golden Arm Award.
Lucky rushed for over 1,000 yards last year and caught a school-record 75 passes for the Nebraska football team in 2007. He earned second-team All-Big 12 honors and accounted for 1,743 all-purpose yards, the seventh highest total in school history.
Ganz came on for the injured Sam Keller at the end of last year and put up some amazing numbers. He passed for over 400 yards in each of his three starts, setting single-game records for passing yards and touchdowns in a win over Kansas State. He finished with 1,453 yards passing and 16 touchdowns while completing 58.6 percent of his passes.
