The Nebraska football team continued its long-standing tradition of sellout crowds at Memorial Stadium, as a record crowd of 86,304 celebrated the 300th consecutive sellout and watched Nebraska shut out Louisiana-Lafayette 55-0 on Saturday night.
The Huskers racked up 433 yards in total offense and kept the Rajun' Cajuns out of the end zone, posting the team's first shutout in three years and doing it on a night where a lot of celebration was in the air.
With many fans decked out in 1960's-era clothes, the Huskers hit the field sporting throwback jerseys from 1962, the year the streak of consecutive sellouts began. Members of the 1962 team were honored, as were family members of the late Bob Devaney, the man whose coaching helped Nebraska break out of a two-decade slump and begin a tradition of success that has lasted into its third generation.
Zac Lee was 15-of-18 on the night for 238 yards and a touchdown, Roy Helu found the end zone twice and Larry Asante returned an interception 74 yards for a touchdown to help the Huskers improve to 3-1 heading into Big 12 Conference play next week against Missouri.
The Huskers have not beaten Missouri at Faurot Field since 2001 and are looking for revenge after the Tigers handed Nebraska a 52-17 homecoming pasting last year in Lincoln. The game is being played on Thursday, Oct. 8, and it will be a key early conference matchup as both teams are looking to get the early advantage on the race for the Big 12 North Division title.
