The Nebraska football team has had more than its share of struggles with the spread offense run so well by Missouri, and they will get their chance to stop that high-powered offense when the two teams meet Thursday, Oct. 8.
The Tigers come into this Thursday Big 12 opener on a hot streak against the Huskers. Missouri has won the last three games and four of the last six, and have also won the last three battles between these two old Big Eight foes at Faurot Field.
Missouri has done it with a powerful spread offense that has racked up more than 1,000 yards in the two previous meeting between Nebraska and Missouri. Last year, the Tigers came to Lincoln and completely dominated the Huskers on homecoming night, posting a 52-17 triumph in Memorial Stadium.
The Huskers' defense has looked solid so far this season. Even in the lone Nebraska loss so far this year, a 16-15 setback at Virginia Tech, the Husker defense did a remarkable job containing one of the better offensive units in the country. It took a scrambling, last-second touchdown pass for the Hokies to keep Nebraska from sporting a 4-0 record similar to the one earned so far this year by Missouri.
Historically, this matchup has created some memorable outcomes, including the infamous play known as "The Kick" in which Matt Davison caught a Scott Frost pass that was deflected off the foot of Shevin Wiggins in 1997. That catch sent the game to overtime, and Nebraska went on to win the national title.
Catch a great Big 12 matchup between Nebraska and Missouri on Thursday, Oct. 8, with great tickets from Ticket Express -- where no Husker football game is ever sold out.
